Comunication, Media and ICT

The shaping of culture and communication through the production of meanings, values and patterns of behaviour, are a part of every social order and are key elements in any moment of historical change. In our societies, traditional mass media and new information technologies have become unavoidable factors for understanding (and transforming) the power relations between classes, genders and ethnic groups, and for the construction of hegemony.

From this perspective, we propose to address three main dimensions:

1. The constitution and the circulation of new ideological formations that support the current neoliberal offensive.
2. The processes of the concentration of ownership and technological convergence, as well as the scope of regulations and the development of alternative media.
3. The changes in traditional media based on new developments introduced by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the production and consumption of information and entertainment.
